Former advertising copywriter, Gloria Asio Omaswa, appointed Principal Private Secretary

President Museveni has appointed communications professional Gloria Asio Omaswa as the new Principal Private Secretary. Asio takes over from Kenneth Omona who was appointed as Minister of State, Office of the Prime Minister Northern Uganda in a new Cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday night. 

Irene Birungi, who has been serving as the private secretary for the administration at the office of the President, has been transferred to Public Service Ministry for deployment. “Friends, as my tour of duty as Principal Private Secretary to HE the President comes to an end,I thank each and everyone for the great support and I convey my gratitude to President ⁦Museveni for the opportunity to continue serving  our Great  nation,” said Omona in a message on X platform on Friday morning. 

Asio boasts over 20 years experience in the communication industry across East Africa, Europe and North America. Asio studied law at Makerere University, attended the Law Development Centre before she entered the communication world eventually earning a masters in communication strategy at the Brand Centre,VCU, USA.

She honed her communication skills at various prestigious institutions and agencies, including ZK TBWA Kenya and The Martin Agency, before assuming the CEO position at Kedajo in 2021.

This pivotal role positions her as the chief coordinator and manager of related staff and functional units within State House. She has joined the remarkable careers of Museveni’s former inner-circle that includes journalist Mary Karoro Okurut, who was succeeded by Onapito Ekomoloit.

Others who have held this role include Sserwanga Lwanga, Amelia Kyambadde, Grace Akello, Mary Amajo, and Molly Kamukama. As PPS, Asio will oversee the President’s programme, heading the Private Office and Household of the President.
