Elevate Her Uganda launched in Mitooma to empower women and girls

Thousands gathered at Ruhinda Secondary School playground to witness and support the launch of the ‘Elevate Her Uganda’ an initiative aimed at empowering women and girls across the country.

The mass event was honored by the deputy speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwe who urged residents to work towards their development and fight against poverty in all formats. He said that leaders will come only to supplement on what residents have done for themselves no matter how little it will be.

The deputy speaker also in the same context asked the internal affairs minister to help residents solve the problem of theft of people’s domestic animals especially in areas of Rutookye but also asked residents to be vigilant.

He assured residents of full support from them as their leaders noting that they are all united for a good cause of development. He offered an initial support of 20million UGX to Elevate Her Uganda.

Rtd Maj Gen Kahiinda Otafiire, also internal affairs minister emphasized the key role of a leader being the responsibility to change people’s lives for the better.

Minister Otafiire thanked Loyce Natukunda the CEO Elevate her Uganda for the great initiative brought to Mitooma district and Uganda largely beginning with the poultry project. He encouraged residents to give enough care to their chickens and assured them of a ready market.

Tukamushaba Shakira one of the beneficiaries expressed her gratitude for the “elevate her’ initiative noting that as we women they are being empowered for development like never before.

She said they have learnt a number of other developmental activities like agriculture, hands on activities among others through this initiative. She applauded the proprietors of this project.

A number of leaders including Health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, Area woman member of parliament Hon Juliet Agasha Bashisha, the Netherlands ambassador to Uganda Frederieke Quispel among others were available to witness the launch.
