Her previous car, which she used to vend fruits with, was a dilapidated piece of metal. It looked like it was hurriedly put together in a metal shack downtown. It was rickety, with its parts one pothole away from getting off.
It choked to resurrection, picking its pace slowly, and staggered onto the tarmac, leaving a plume of smoke and prayers behind. This was Night Ampurire’s rundown car when it first appeared on a bulletin aired on NTV Uganda, dated August 8th.
42-year-old Ampurire is a fruit vendor from Kitooro Market, Entebbe, where she sells fruits in order to raise her 5 children. In the bulletin, you could see her hand lugging a baby and the other negotiating with gears. But today, Tuesday 27th August, her story changed forever as MTN Uganda gifted her a brand-new Toyota pickup.
Ampurire, the night before, must have prayed a powerful prayer before she put her children to bed. And the gods have truly paid back with a powerful gift from MTN Uganda. This is a story of resilience. A story Ampurire will live to tell.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Kitooro Market, Entebbe, Sylvia Mulinge, CEO MTN Uganda, said, “We’re very happy today. We want to thank NTV Uganda for this story. One of our colleagues picked it and shared it on our WhatsApp group. We started asking ourselves what we can do. This is a woman who has 5 kids. A hardworking woman. And as MTN Uganda, we stand for people, community, and those who’re working hard. Today, we have brought a brand-new car to madam to help her in doing business”
