A tribute to a lost light

The late Frank Muthusi, Group CEO, Fireworks Advertising

By Kojo Cyril

In the world of advertising, where “make the logo bigger” can follow you even to the most joyous of occasions, the best work often requires solitude. The industry demands a level of control over chaos both within and around you, a luxury few can afford. Many have tried and failed, their spirits broken by the relentless demands and the emotional toll.

The once affable and loving people who entered this industry have often emerged as living stones, devoid of emotion. Great conversationalists have been reduced to silent figures, lost in their own worlds, their only connection to the outside world a nod or a smile when they encounter a billboard they worked on.

It’s a tragedy that an industry that brings laughter to millions can leave its practitioners so sad. How can they create such joy while carrying such emptiness within themselves?

There are countless stories to be shared, countless questions to be asked, but the constant pressure of client briefs and deadlines often leaves little room for conversation.

To Frank Muthusi, Group CEO of Fireworks Advertising, I hope you found solace and fulfilment in your work, that the industry you gave so much to give back to you in equal measure. Your candle has gone off too soon, many were depending on it for light to see where they are heading, now they have to grope in the darkness. The world of briefs, pitching, brainstorms, and ‘make us trend’ will miss you deeply.

Your passion, your creativity, and your unwavering dedication to your craft were an inspiration to all who knew you.

Peace out, Ad Man.
