Sky’s the limit: Uganda Airlines spreads its wings to Nigeria

Travelers are rubbing their hands in glee as Uganda Airlines shot to high heavens with its new route to Lagos, Nigeria. The airline launched direct flights from Entebbe International Airport to Lagos, Nigeria’s prominent economic center, with the aim of enhancing connectivity with Africa’s largest economy.

The inaugural flight lifted off on Thursday, following the necessary approvals from aviation authorities in both Uganda and Nigeria.

Jenifer Bamuturaki, the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, stated, “Uganda Airlines will conduct flights to Nigeria three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays, utilizing our state-of-the-art 258-seat Airbus A330-800neo aircraft.”

Bamuturaki highlighted the significance of the route, saying, “Nigeria is not only Africa’s largest economy, but Uganda’s central location on the continent also positions it as an ideal hub for connecting East, West, North, and Southern Africa.”

She further explained that these direct flights will result in substantial time savings for travellers terminating their journeys in Uganda, as well as those desiring to continue their travels within East Africa.

The addition of Lagos marks the 13th destination for Uganda Airlines, following the launch of direct flights to Mumbai, India, on October 7.

Uganda Airlines started offering commercial flights in August 2019, after 20 years of inactivity.
